In defiance of current EU efforts to decrease the bloc’s reliance on Russian gas, energy giant Gazprom is finding allies at both commercial and political levels that can help it solidify its dominant position on the European gas market.
Gazprom inked, on 18 June, a memorandum of intent with three major European companies to expand the Nord Stream pipeline from Russia to Germany in an effort to increase gas supplies to Western Europe over the next decades.
