Ban on Russian LNG : Europeans embarrassed by the situation

Since the invasion of Ukraine, the volumes of liquefied natural gas that Russia exports to Europe have not decreased. Yet the EU recently adopted a law enabling any Member State to ban Russian LNG from its ports. But none of the major importers – like France – has dared to activate the mechanism. Some deplore a « lack of political courage », while others cite « too much legal uncertainty ». The Commission will have to avoid these pitfalls when it presents new measures to limit its dependence on Russia on 6 May.
