"We will enshrine our 90% target for 2040 in our European climate law". Could this promise made by Ursula von der Leyen to the European Parliament in July 2024, when she was re-elected as head of the Commission, be in jeopardy? At least, that is what some Member States, MEPs, NGOs and think-tanks are now fearing, as they defend the continuation of the Green Deal, in particular through an ambitious target for 2040.
